The context

Clinical-research materials must communicate complex scientific and procedural information to people who may not have a medical background.

For Kabuverdianu-speaking participants, access also depends on language that reflects real usage while remaining accurate, consistent and appropriate for an institutional research environment.

The objective was not simply to replace English words with Kabuverdianu equivalents. It was to produce participant-facing communication that protected the meaning of the approved source while remaining understandable to its intended audience.

Scope and responsibility

Janilson M. Semedo was responsible for the complete linguistic workflow from English into Kabuverdianu.

The responsibility extended beyond individual sentences. The complete document set needed to communicate as one consistent participant-information package.

  • Translation and editing: The materials were translated and edited as a connected body of information without changing the meaning or level of certainty expressed in the source.
  • Linguistic quality assurance: The content was checked for omissions, inconsistencies, terminology problems, formatting issues and unintended changes in meaning.
  • Visual review: XTM Visual Mode was used to examine the translation within its document layout and identify issues not visible in isolated segments.
  • Final verification: The final review confirmed consistency, completeness and the correct preservation of names, credentials and institutional information.

No claim is made about participant recruitment, clinical outcomes or the subsequent use of the materials because those results were outside the scope of the language assignment.
